How to Prepare for the Cold and Flu Season

How to Prepare for the Cold and Flu Season

Over the counter there is a whole host of remedies, all promising to relieve the sneezing, coughing, stuffiness, congestion, watery eyes, runny nose and other ailments a person might endure. The truth is, such analgesics, antihistamines and de-congestants often used are limited in their effectiveness.

Yes, the threat of catching a cold or flu is upon us but there is a lot you can do to prepare and combat those nasty bugs.

What you want to do first is build your immune system. I often start off with prescribing to my patients a standard Chinese herbal formula that does just that. Its called Six Gents and it’s a great formula for those that are always on the go and can never find enough time to slow down until a cold hits them.

Also manage your stress, find time to unwind, whether its working out, listening to music, meditating whatever works for you. Keep in mind that once your stress level rises your immune system declines leaving the door open to a whole host of undesirables.

Get acupuncture!! It’s a great way to not only build your immune system but also de-stress at the same time.

For those that unfortunately catch a cold, I prescribe an herbal formula that nips it in the bud. Its called Magnolia Clear Sinus. This formula is designed to clear a head cold and stop it from developing. Its great!!

Also in my pharmacy, I carry herbal formulas that address viral or infection related colds or flus such as sore throats, chest colds, ear aches etc.

So, fortify and prepare yourself through the cold season by building your immune system, manage your stress by getting your acupuncture, you’ll be glad you did!
