What is a Healthy Gut? Part Two

Bloated or gassy after a meal?

Developing a bloated and gassy gut is usually the beginning stage of digestive disorders down the road. When your digestive system is unable to digest what you’ve already consumed you will develop signs and symptoms of a bloated gut. It’s not fun especially when you’re around other people - ha. Your gut is just letting you know that it isn’t as strong as it used to be and it’s having a harder time doing its job.

First look at stress and how much of an impact its having on your everyday life. Then pay attention to the foods that cause the bloating. It’s often a good idea to eliminate them for a few months then reintroduce them slowly and see how you feel. You may also want to look into digestive enzymes, they can help you digest protein, fats and carbs and make digestion easier.

Here are a few things to think about:

  • How are you managing your stress, are you taking time to unwind and be mindful?
  • Not eliminating the foods in your diet that cause discomfort can easily turn into allergies and further weaken your digestive tract.
  • Are you over eating or eating too late at night?
  • If you’re not sure what foods are causing the discomfort think about journaling your food intake

To strengthen a weakened digestive system consider acupuncture for it will not only improve digestion it speeds the process and also addresses any underlying causes you may have. It can also be reassuring to have someone guide you through the process of bringing you back to good health.
